tour journal

i should start writing stuff down while i’m actually on tour. this is just a recap.

wednesday: hung out with amanda all day and watched her make descendents patches for me. talked to mark from spraynard and found out they were having van trouble, called mike “the savior” haller to pick them up. met tony and his girlfriend at the venue, watched him play a killer set, played an alright set, hung out with the best people. spraynard killed it, the new songs are too good.

thursday: left flemington for the trek back to delaware. ate my parents’ food with tony and christine, then headed down to newark for the mojo main show. tony played to no one, i played to a little more than that, and after us the goofiest girl played the worst songs. sample lyrics: “can’t trust this automatic toilet”, “it raises doubts about his heterosexuality”, “little baby horseshoe crabs and i’m their biggest fan”, and the best of all, “how can you stand blindly by while bloodshed and torture is the norm, sing peace across the earth…”. did. not. make. sense. you can ask me about everything else that happened at this show, but i’m not throwing it up on the internet. all i can say is: for bands looking for shows in delaware, do house shows or play in PA/MD/south jersey.

friday: slept in my bed for the first time in over a week, hung out until about 3 and then we headed to oaklyn to meet up with alec for chipotle. it was awesome. after a while of hanging out at there and barnes and noble (i found out jason once used pages of the bible as toilet paper at emerald city, \m/ 666) we went to the venue and met up with clams and dan saraceni, the other band, the people at the venue, and a woman who wanted me to give her $2.50 because she’d “pay me back next friday”. south jersey has some characters. the show was awesome. everyone played well and then we went to the diner. i got a veggie burger and it ruled. after that we went back to clams house and it was incredibly nice. i slept on the slipperiest couch.

saturday: woke up, ate banana and cream cheese sandwiches on a bagel at clams while he made forty sausage links, then started on the way to new york. we did not hit manhattan at all which ruled because traffic there is unruly as shit. got to emerald city pretty early and hung out with the marine electric dudes on chatroulette. watched the shittiest movie ever: mongolian deathworms. it’s real. waited for the rapture, it didn’t come, we started drinking around 7. the show was supposed to start then but it didn’t. when i started at 9:30 my voice held up surprisingly well for how shitty i sounded during the day. barrie came out which is always awesome and i met a ton of awesome people. this one dude handed me $20 just because. ah horse hockey and kite party were AWESOME.  i got drunker progressively throughout the night and then watched the marine electric fucking destroy. kept drinking until i passed out on a couch in the middle of the house around 2:30. apparently the party didn’t stop until 8 but i slept through all of it.

sunday: woke up groggy and couldn’t stretch out my arms because i slept weird on the couch. couches are simultaneously the worst and best things to sleep on when you don’t have a bed. we got burritos at this place around the corner and they were fucking GNARLY. i had another burrito the night before that i thought was incredible but this killed it. i had so many good burritos this weekend, fuck. after that we drove up to albany and i met everyone else in caleb and met up with banquets and static radio NJ. both of those bands are so good and some of the funniest/nuttiest/nicest dudes on the planet are in those bands. i also met everyone from albany. mike cox, kris wild, mike tash and nick from aficianado are fucking ridiculous and the best dudes. my voice sucked and i broke another string on tony’s guitar so i finished the set playing charles from SR’s electric guitar. i haven’t played a set with an electric guitar since late 2009. it was weird, and my voice was dead, but it was fun. all three bands killed it. static radio is a really, really fun band to watch and banquets is incredibly tight and they’re one of the best straight up punk bands doing it right now. the new record is going to be fantastic. and after watching tony blow me away with those songs four nights in a row it was awesome seeing them in their fullest, real form again. caleb lionheart is one of the most talented and versatile bands in pop punk right now and their new 7” is a banger. labels: put it out. after the show ended i just kept getting more and more drunk and having a ton of fun with the albany kids. the night ended with pizza at a place down the block where i found out mike cox used to do backyard wrestling. albany fucking rules. me, tony and mike hung out for a while and then i slept on an awesome bed.

i wish i could tour all the time. this week was the fucking best. thank you to tony and christine for making this happen and being the best people to hang out with, amanda, jeff, button up, spraynard, alec, clams, dan, the people at studio luloo, the marine electric, ah horse hockey, kite party, the dude who gave me $20, taj, caleb lionheart, banquets, static radio, everyone at that house on albany, and everyone i met this weekend. i’ll never forget it.
