I don't think anyone expects them to cancel their plans and fucking go out of their way to play a house show or some shit. Bottom line is, you're a fucking touring band. Try and be a little professional and don't alienate fans who are just really enthusiastic about wanting to see you live. Nothing is cool or punk about having a shitty attitude towards the people who are the only reason you're moderately successful anyway.
Who gives any kind of a shit about being “successful”? Do you know what successful means for a punk band in 2012 that tours constantly? It means losing half of what you would if you weren’t successful. You’re still going to go into debt. You’re still not going to be able to hold a job. You just have a few more dorks in insert-band-here shirts who go on Tumblr during shows instead of enjoying them, blogging about how cool it is to see a band they aren’t even paying attention to. I realize this is a really cynical way to look at things and Dan Anderson is probably really proud of me right now, but it’s the truth. It’s cool that people like their band, but what gives you the right to complain and try to get them to cancel a show just because it’s too far out of your way?
This is the bottom line: They don’t have a shitty attitude just because they aren’t catering to your every whim as a “fan”. It’s cool that kid wants to see Crucial Dudes. I think it’s awesome people are enthusiastic about them. But once you start complaining about their choice of shows three thousand miles away from home just because they aren’t fifteen minutes from your house, that’s when you need to shut the fuck up and either take the road trip or stay at home on Tumblr like you would any other day.
