Well whoever you are, thanks for calling all Christians stupid, regardless of what we personally believe. I believe in evolution - not that we evolved from apes, but that animals and living things do change over time. I think non-Christians automatically take the stance that we believe the COMPLETE opposite of you. We don’t. I know a large number of people who study the links between religion and Science, and actually there are ways they can work together, it’s just that both groups can be ignorant to what the other is actually trying to say. I believe in the Bible, and I believe in Science. What does that make me? An idiot? Obviously you think so.

You don’t believe in science if you believe in evolution but “not that we evolved from apes”. We are apes. We can look at our genetic code and see a 98% similarity to chimpanzees, and a slightly lower percentage similarity to other great apes and even monkeys.

We have an almost complete fossil record of hominin evolution, from early humans like our cousin Lucy, a specimen of Australopithecus afarensis, to very recent divergent human species like the Neanderthal. Though now extinct, we actually coexisted and interbred with the Neanderthal. We can show the biochemical evidence for this in gene sequencing and fossils.

The idea that you believe we are not apes is so ridiculous to me I’m having trouble fathoming it. I’m surprised you don’t also deny that we’re mammals, or chordates, or that gravity exists. You’ve been indoctrinated through fear into a cult that obscures logic and reason from you and replaces it with metaphysical garbage that stands directly in the way of what can be quantified and supported with empirical evidence.

You don’t believe in Science, you believe in science that is convenient for your cherry-picked Christian beliefs. 

The very sentence “I believe in evolution- not that we evolved from apes” is one of the finest examples of the arrogant, meaningless denial that Christians display when they don’t want  to believe in arguably the most tried-and-tested scientific theory in history.

Did you know that you can selectively breed Drosophila fruit flies to have whatever number of abdominal bristles you want? That you can selectively breed plants and produce new strains? That dogs like pugs descended from wolves?

None of that is any different. There is no reason to deny that humans ARE apes, and that we evolved, along with monkeys and modern great apes, from an APE common ancestor. In fact, you can give me absolutely any reason that explains these idiotic “beliefs” and I will destroy them.

People are disrespectful because they’re sick of seeing children not understanding basic science due to the proselytising of their foul parents, seeing people actively deny the life’s work of thousands of people, distance themselves from such a beautiful system of biology and our incredible ape brothers and generally squander one of the most advanced brains to ever evolve.

Just because someone is either misinformed or has an alternate viewpoint on a subject doesn’t mean you should attack them like a fucking child. Generalizing all Christians is fucking ignorant, and I’d rather sit down and have a discussion with someone who believes in creationism but isn’t a total douche rather than a self righteous asshole who can’t act like an adult once they’re behind a screen.
